Weddings

Heather's Wedding

When my roommate and one of my best friends from college told she was getting married, I was surprised and thrilled! But when she told me she wanted me to be her maid of honor I was even more ecstatic and flattered. I had never been in a wedding party before and knew this would be lots of work. However, she made my life easy and was the ‘low maintenance’ bride. I flew back 3 times this summer, the first time to throw Heather’s bachelorette party/bridal shower, the second, Summit’s wedding, and finally for Heather’s big day.

Heather’s wedding, held in a small church in Fredericksburg, Virginia was quaint, charming, and sweet. I had a fabulous time with the Bridal party and friends from college, Jason, Allison, Sara and Mark. L.A. seemed so far and removed during my stay in the outskirts of VA. Over my trips, I reminisced over the small town feel of Southern VA where I had gone to college and lived (Richmond), envied the simplicity of things, cheap real estate, and enjoyed hospitable, friendly folk. I even had Vietnamese cuisine at a local Fredericksburg nail salon, a rarity indeed! Heather’s sister-in-law, Bobbi, the other bridesmaid, helped me organize the pre-wedding and even post wedding festivities and was my savoir! She was also gracious enough to let us use her home as the starting ground when we hit the night life of F-burg. I have always enjoyed hanging out with Heather parents and now new husband, Sean and friends. Thanks guys for letting me be apart of your wedding!

Summit’s Wedding

I met Summit in college and we always had an affinity for sharing deep thoughts on life. When he went to teach abroad in Thailand, I studied in Spain, and we both came back sharing differences of culture, learnings, and our adventures.

I think everyone should go to an Indian wedding once in their lifetime. I was lucky enough to attend one of my best friends’. This was an all day event and the festivities started at 9:30 AM with a break between lunch and dinner, resuming at 6:30 and going late into the night. One important highlight of this wedding was the love by Summit, Radikkha and their family and friends. You could tell they appreciated their family/friends and vice versa, with kind words, love, admiration exemplified by everyone throughout the day. Other highlights: Catching up with Alika and Jess, Summit arriving in a carriage resembling a handsome Prince, the 4-hour Hindu ceremony of rituals and vows, the Indian vegetarian lunch, the 300 person reception party, introduction of Mr. and Mrs. Summit Sampat dancing in to “Beautiful” by Snoop, traditional, Indian dances, non-stop dancing in general and the groom dancing hip-hop with his mom, dad and sister!
